Ridge Hike 8B

Ridge Hike Reflections
“As I sat in my solitude and reflection spot I was stuck in the moment.”
--Hayden

“I can see white butterflies flying against the wind I can see life and death in the trees, I can see the history of this place woven into the roots that hold the mighty trees above.”
--Emmett

“As September comes to an end the warm summer breeze sticks around as if to remind me of the days when all that mattered was being outside, dusk to dawn, and how that has been lost in the world of modern technology.”
         --Marina

Opening Circle
The day started with review of the Learning Targets and hiking protocols for the hike today.  We started with our first activity of observing what plants are dominate at this elevation.
Hiking
Our First thing we did was cross a small creek and start up the ridge above our study site. Along the way while we hiked we observed the Flora and fauna at the different elevations and recorded these in our journals so we could use the data in science.

Map Activity
Near the top of the ridge we could view most of Tumalo Valley. Using maps we pinpointed important places and their relative location to our study site below.
Lunch
For lunch we ate at on the ridge tucked into nooks in small groups.
Art and Solitude
We hiked further along the ridge until we got to a more open area.  We did a short art lesson and set up to spread ourselves out to draw and write in the large trees.
Hike Down
On the hike down we tried to figure out which way was faster to gets back. We were grouped in to 2 groups and each went a different way.  We shared reflections as we waited at the bottom for both groups to reconvene.
